Legends Trail Project

Connecting Place, Heritage and Contemporary Art

Every place has stories worth remembering.

Legends grow from the memory of places – from people who lived there, events that shaped them, and stories passed from one generation to another.

The Legends Trail Project brings these stories back to the places where they belong, combining local heritage, contemporary art and storytelling to create meaningful cultural experiences for communities and visitors – while leaving a lasting cultural layer for the places themselves.

Project Concept – “To Turn Every Place Into a Legend.”

The Legends Trail Project is a flexible cultural framework that can be adapted to different places, communities and scales – from a single storytelling point to a fully developed cultural trail.

Each project brings together:

  • local legends, historical stories and cultural memory;
  • contemporary art inspired by the character of the place;
  • storytelling and interpretation that connect stories with real locations;
  • meaningful public spaces where people can pause, discover and engage with the story;
  • digital tools, such as audio, interactive maps or AR, where they add value to the experience.

From a Single Storytelling Point to a Full Trail

The project can begin with a small pilot: one to four storytelling points, each built around a local story and an original artwork. The points can be connected through a curated map of legendary and historically significant locations, encouraging visitors to explore the wider cultural landscape.

Local artists can become part of the process, interpreting the stories of their own place through contemporary art. This creates a direct connection between local cultural memory, living creative communities and the people who experience the trail.

The format is intentionally scalable. A small pilot can become the foundation for a larger trail as new stories, artworks, partners and locations are added over time.

Starting Small

The Legends Trail can begin with a single storytelling point – a small but meaningful cultural intervention that connects one local story with the place where it belongs.

A single point can feature an original artwork, a local legend or historical story, and a map or other invitation to discover related places nearby. Digital elements such as audio, interactive content or AR can extend the experience when they genuinely add value.

This format is particularly suitable for testing a new idea, activating a specific location, or working in sensitive natural, historical or urban environments where a larger installation is not appropriate. Over time, additional stories, artworks and locations can be added, allowing the project to grow organically into a wider Legends Trail.

What the Legends Trail Can Create

A New Layer of Cultural Identity

Local legends, historical stories and collective memory are interpreted through contemporary art and brought into the places where they originated.

A Living Cultural Experience

Storytelling points and connected routes invite residents and visitors to discover familiar places from a new perspective – through stories, art and direct engagement with the landscape.

Opportunities for Local Artists and Communities

The project can involve local artists, cultural organisations, historians, educators and community members, creating space for local knowledge and contemporary creative expression.

A Lasting Cultural Asset

Unlike a temporary event or campaign, the Legends Trail creates a physical and cultural presence that can remain part of the destination and continue to serve residents, visitors and educational activities over time.

Tourism & Local Development

By connecting stories, places and experiences, the project can enrich the existing cultural and tourism offer and create new reasons to explore a destination.

A Meaningful Opportunity for Patrons

Businesses and private patrons can support a tangible cultural project in a real place – contributing to local heritage, artistic creation and a visible legacy that remains in the community.

Why It Matters

✔ Strengthens local identity and cultural memory

✔ Creates lasting value for the place and its community

✔ Supports local artists and cultural participation

✔ Enriches the visitor experience without reducing heritage to a tourist attraction

✔ Can grow gradually from a small pilot into a wider cultural route

✔ Creates meaningful opportunities for patronage and cross-sector partnerships

What the Place Gains

Cultural Value

  • Local heritage, legends and stories are interpreted through contemporary art.
  • Traditional stories and mythology are given new relevance through contemporary creative expression.
  • The project creates a visible and lasting cultural layer within the place.

Community Value

  • Local artists and cultural practitioners can become part of the project.
  • Residents can rediscover familiar places through their stories and histories.
  • The trail can support cultural education and create opportunities for intergenerational storytelling.

Visitor & Tourism Value

  • A new reason to explore the destination and its lesser-known places.
  • A richer, more meaningful experience of the local landscape and heritage.
  • A cultural attraction that can complement existing tourism routes, rather than compete with them.

Long-term & Economic Value

  • A cultural asset that can remain part of the destination over time.
  • Potential to support local cultural and tourism businesses through increased engagement with the destination.
  • Opportunities for partnerships with businesses and patrons who want to contribute to a visible local cultural initiative.

Every place holds stories worth discovering. The Legends Trail helps bring them back to life.

Let’s explore how a Legends Trail could take shape in your place.

How Patrons Become Part of the Story

Supporting a Legends Trail means contributing to a cultural project that becomes part of a real place and its community.

✔ Support a specific legend, artwork or storytelling point and help bring it to life.

✔ Support local artists and cultural creation by contributing to the development of original artworks inspired by local heritage.

✔ Have your name or company associated with a specific cultural initiative and acknowledged as a patron of the project.

✔ Create a lasting cultural legacy by supporting an element of the trail that remains part of the destination.

✔ Build meaningful partnerships with the local community, cultural organisations and destination stakeholders.

✔ Gain positive visibility through association with a tangible cultural and community initiative, with opportunities for communication and PR around the project.

The greatest value of patronage is not simply being seen – it is helping create something that remains.
